Terminology
Greenfield
Greenfield sites, or “Vacant Land,” are land plots that are free from any development and have never been built upon. The soil on these sites has never been cultivated. Such land is commonly found in cities and suburban areas, standing in stark contrast to the developed surrounding areas.
Sometimes, these sites were previously used for agricultural purposes (e.g., as pasture), but more often, they are fields or wastelands that are part of urban or suburban landscapes.
Brownfield
Brownfield sites, or “Vacant Industrial Areas,” are industrial land plots that are currently not being used for their intended purpose but contain elements of industrial infrastructure (buildings, structures, utilities, etc.) and can be reused for industrial purposes.
These sites are typically found in areas that were once industrial centers but have lost their prominence due to various reasons.
