Zhytomyr in the UN Development Program

On November 17, representatives of the UN Development Program visited Zhytomyr region with the presentation of a new UNDP project in Ukraine “Promoting sustainable livestock production and preserving ecosystems in northern Ukraine,” among the target areas of which is Zhytomyr region.

The UNDP project aims to promote sustainable livestock farming and ecosystem conservation in northern Ukraine. In particular, because of the solution to the problem of drainage of peat soils.

One of the main goals of the project is to preserve the ecosystem of the North of Ukraine and improve the environmental conditions for the development of agriculture in the target areas.

FOR WHOM?

The project covers 7 regions: Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, Rivne, Volyn, Khmelnitsky, Vinnitsa. The peculiarity and main mission of the project is to preserve the ecosystem of the North of Ukraine. In particular, to overcome the problem of drainage of peat soils, which in the future can serve as pastures for domestic animals.

The project will involve a comprehensive study of the ecosystem and soil condition of the Zhytomyr region. Which will identify ways to improve environmental conditions for the development of agriculture in the target areas of the project. Also, the project may include a component of grants for livestock farms.

Currently, preparations are underway for the implementation of the project. In particular, the search for specialists in the field of soil research of the Zhytomyr region. Who will be able to join the comprehensive analysis within the project, continues.

Therefore, it is extremely pleasant that Zhytomyr region has become part of an important project, which in particular will have a positive impact on the food security of Ukraine.
