“Contaminated land remediation through Energy crops for Soil improvement to liquid biofuel strategies” (CERESiS)
The CERESiS project (Contaminated land Remediation through Energy crops for Soil improvement to liquid biofuel strategies), funded by the Horizon 2020 program, aims to remediate contaminated land with energy crops.
Its goal is to grow special plants on land unsuitable for traditional agriculture. They absorb pollutants from the soil and at the same time provide raw materials for biofuel production. This allows us to restore the soil and produce environmentally friendly fuel at the same time. The project runs from 2020 to 2024, with a budget of approximately €3.6 million. It is coordinated by the National Technical University of Athens, with the participation of several European research centers and universities.
Project Title: “Rehabilitation of Contaminated Land Using Energy Crops for Soil Improvement Strategies and Liquid Biofuel Production” (CERESiS)
Initiator: Horizon 2020 Program
Implementation Period: 2021–2023
Project Activities: Involves experimental planting of specific crops aimed at purifying contaminated soils.
Participants from Zhytomyr Region: The list of participating communities is currently being formed.
Preliminary Results: Information has been collected from regional communities, and specific sites in the Zhytomyr region have been selected for project implementation. An inspection of the selected sites has been conducted.
