In Ukraine’s smallholder livestock sector, commercial goat farming is practically undeveloped. As of the beginning of 2019, there were 688 sheep and goat farms in the country, but only 88 of them kept more than 500 animals. Most were small farms with up to 50 goats. The main reasons why farmers are hesitant to expand their herds are as follows
- lack of government support in the form of subsidies;
- the risk of losing animals due to epizootics;
- the need to purchase expensive imported equipment for automated milking.
At the same time, with the right approach, goat farming in Ukraine can become a profitable business, and the low level of competition creates favorable opportunities for its development.
The project envisages the establishment of a farm with a population of 50 dairy goats.
The company’s products will include:
- goat meat (from young and castrated goats);
- live animals (goats up to 3 months old, young goats and adult goats)
- goat cheese;
- kefir and yogurt made from goat milk.
